What does end of life vehicle processing mean?

Under the terms of Legislative Decree No. 209 of 24 June 2003 and subsequent amendments, Fiat auto has implemented a project for vehicle demolition with a twofold aim:
to observe obligations arising out of the European Vehicle End Of Life Directive, which requires vehicles to be collected once they have reached the end of their life cycle;
- to ensure that vehicles are processed with the maximum respect for environmental rules at the end of their lifetimes.
For this project, Fiat Auto is organising its own collection and processing centres for FIAT, LANCIA, ALFA ROMEO, Innocenti and Autobianchi brands by entering into agreements with authorised demolition agents selected throughout Italy.
Fiat Auto customers can hand over their vehicle at the end of its life cycle without additional charges, with the exception of:
the sum due to the Public Motoring Registry for radiation;
- any cost of transport to the collection centre.

What is meant by transport cost?

Transport or transfer cost indicates any costs for taking your vehicle to the collection centre.

Does the legislative decree applied to all vehicles?

The legislative decree envisages that the service will apply up to 31.12.06 only to vehicles to be demolished that were registered after 1 July 2002. As of 1 January 2007 it will concern all vehicles, whatever their age. End of life vehicle collection will apply to all goods and passenger transport vehicles with up to 9 seats, for a total permitted weight of 3.5 t. The legislative decree also lays down the conditions necessary for demolishing your vehicle free of charge (apart from the cost of cancelling the public automobile registry (PRA) entry and transport):
1. the vehicle must be delivered to any collection centre indicated by the manufacturer
2. the vehicle must be complete, i.e. it must contain all its essential elements: engine, transmission, body, electronic control units and catalytic converter
3. the vehicle must be free of additional waste (e.g. waste deriving from gardening/domestic activities, additional tyres, etc).

If I intend to buy a new vehicle from a Fiat, Lancia or Alfa Romeo dealership, what should I do to have my old vehicle demolished?

If you buy a new car from a Fiat, Lancia or Alfa Romeo dealership including demolition of your old vehicle, the dealership will issue a scrappage certificate in the name of and on behalf of the collection centre that will receive your vehicle.
Issue of the scrappage certificate exonerates the vehicle owner from any criminal, civil and administrative liability associated with the vehicle's ownership and correct management.
After cancelling the public automobile registry (PRA) entry, the dealership must deliver the vehicle to the authorised collection centre in the name of and on behalf of which the demolition certificate was issued within 30 days of collection.

What costs must I pay if I demolish a used car and buy a new one?

If a used vehicle is demolished with purchase of a new or used car from a Fiat, Lancia or Alfa Romeo dealership, Fiat Auto customers will only have to pay the usual demolition charges, in other words:
- the sum due to the public automobile registry for radiation - cost of transport from the dealership to the collection centre.

Can you contact a Fiat, Lancia, Alfa Romeo dealership in order to demolish your vehicle without buying a new one?

No. The dealership will only arrange to demolish your vehicle if you are buying a new one.

If I have to demolish a Fiat Auto Group vehicle but do not intend to buy a new one from a Fiat, Lancia or Alfa Romeo dealership, what do I have to do?

You will have to take your car to one of the collection centres that works in conjunction with Fiat Auto, which will:
- collect your vehicle - issue a scrappage certificate showing a description of the state of the vehicle handed over and the demolition agent's undertaking to delete the public automobile registry entry within 30 calendar days.

Issue of the scrappage certificate exonerates the vehicle owner from any criminal, civil and administrative liability associated with the vehicle's ownership and correct management.
