Hemglass will start using the Fiat Doblò for its icecream sales. Initially, the company bought 15 Fiat Doblò 1.6-liter Multijet turbo diesel. Doblò fits Hemglass new business areas, is easy to drive and smooth and it is expected to have half fuel consumption compared to the other cars in the car park.

Ice cream is a typical Italian product, but that is not why Hemglass selected Fiat Doblò when they now add 15 new cars for its sales organization. No, ice cream, is their core business, however, was the Italian car Doblò perfect in size and performance when they needed a smaller, lighter and smoother distribution vehicle.

The Doblò version is a "flatbed" - that means that the luggage area is just a flat panel floor. On that has since Cold Car in Occimiano, northern Italy, mounted their freezer. The final installation was then made with bodybuilder ABC Kaross in Mönsterås, Sweden. The engine is a 1.6-liter Multijet turbo diesel, 105 hp or 90 hp if you selected the automatic AMT gearbox.

- The most important thing for us was how much load we could create, says Henrik Wessén, vehicle manager in Norden at Hemglass. With the Doblò we get 340 kg load capacity.

Unlike many other cars carrying frozen goods the Hemglass-Doblò has no built-in compressor. To cool the cabinet an external compressor at Hemglass' facility is used and then disconnected when the car is on its distribution round. The compressor, which is unique for each car, weighs 180 kg which means that you do not drive around with unnecessary weight and the compressor does not steal cargo space.

It is thus streamlining. You go down into the vehicle size but keep the load.

- We win thus lower operating costs, fuel costs is almost half compared to our other vehicles, says Henrik Wessén. As a bonus, we get a lower environmental impact.

Another practical advantage is that the Doblò’s sleek exterior makes it easy to drive and navigate.

- Doblò is also suitable for our new business, e-shop and our "kiosk" concept. Since the goods are pre-ordered and pre-determined, it becomes more efficient to run with a smaller car, says Henrik Wessén.

Happy recipient of two of the first Fiat Doblò cars are Bo Andersson, franchisee for Hemglass in Västerås, Norrköping, Kalmar and Växjö.

- These cars will suit us fine, he says. I have long asked for smaller and more agile, and above all more economical distribution vehicles.
